Melomakarona are a great alternative when you feel guilty eating some sweet goodness, but still crave the cookies anyway. Made with olive oil instead of butter and getting much of their sweetness from honey, they are a smart alternative to traditional cookies. Melomakarona are extremely popular around Christmas time and often they are referred to as "Spice Cookies". Their popularity also rises during Lent as they don't contain any animal products.
